Confidence vs. Conceit

confident woman

I am an over-achiever.  I can comfortably admit to this because I have proven it to myself and others my entire life. For example, I had a high grade point average throughout school and was even valedictorian in grade school (a nerd? yeah, but I was cool about mine). I’ve always pushed myself to do more and better than my best and everyone else. When I was old enough to work, I always had to be on time and accomplish my tasks ahead of schedule. Continue reading

I’m Sorry Sir But, I Can’t Write With This

short pencil

**Admin note: I sure hope my mama doesn’t read this post! :-/

As the Honorable Pastor Mason Betha *smirk* once said, “It ain’t your pencil, it’s how you write your name.” To this I ask, what if you can’t write your name either? Is there hope for the hopeless? Does a perfectly good man succumb to his *ahem* short-comings? What happens in the situation when you have seemingly met the man of your dreams, until it’s time to do the deed? Do you walk away assuming that you’ll only be wasting your time and his pretending to be happy? Do you stay and “work” things out? I mean, let’s keep it 100 here. How many guys have you given the “It’s not you, it’s me” cop out speech to because he had Baby D and you were too afraid to let him know. And then, well, how do you tell him that the ladder is too short to reach the roof. Let’s explore this issue a little deeper, shall we? *wink* Continue reading

On Dating OTHER People

Interesting Concept, eh?

F act:

In the past, I’ve had a semi-hidden hatred of meeting new men, talking to them/striking up a rapport and agreeing to go out with them for an unknown amount of time. I mean – WHO is this man? How do I know I won’t end up on a milk carton? Dramatic I know but –  if you’ve seen For Colored Girls you’d know why I treat Stranger Dangers the way I do.

Traditionally I’ve just preferred to date men I’ve known for years.  Why? A background is established and you have friends in common (usually).  Friends to vouch are a 1 up on anyone else around in my book.   It gives a sense of security to have 5 years of watching them slut around/ get serious with girls (either/or/both depending on the year).  You get a preview of them in social settings, with friends and how they treat women, family and strangers.  You get a familiarity with their temperament as well.  I’ve always felt it was a good ground to start dating on – A lot of guesswork is taken out of trying to ‘read someone’s signals’ if you already know the code. Resolutions: They Arent Just For New Years.

F or honesty’s sake, I’m willing to admit it:  I’ve truly been in a daze recently. What was clear has become unclear, the constant has become very inconsistent. Why? Several people involved my life (People that have been a part of it for years now) have fallen short of my expectations and it forced me to look at them in a new light. Continue reading

How Do You Define Success?

I‘m more than just a pretty face, small waist, thick thighs, and lovely legs.

I’m more than just an option or number.

S ooo motivated.

U npredicatable.

C an’t stop grindin’.

C ounting my blessings and being thankful for each and every one.

E njoying life as it comes.

S exy from my head to my toe.

S uccessful b/c I am me.
I won’t change for anyone. I want it so I live, breathe, taste, eat, drink, and socialize it.

Success defines me. Be on the look-out because I’m going places. And when you realize I’m a hot commodity, it’ll be too late.

Don’t let anyone define who you are or what you are destined to be.

Follow your hopes, desires and dreams and don’t stop until you’re happy.

The Life

If it’s one thing about the CWNM girls, we throw down on a plate of food! We absolutely love new cool places with great drinks, atmosphere, and a to-die-for menu! We’ve put together a must-do list of places we’ve visited or got great reviews from for you to check out for the coming week. We want to bring you a list of the best of the best each week. For us, Autumn is the season of comfort food. Eat. Drink. Stay Fly.

1. Eataly
200 Fifth Avenue | New York, NY
(646) 398-5100
Superstar chefs Mario Batali, Lidia Bastianich and Joe Bastianich have teamed up to open a branch of the Turin, Italy-based food and wine market in the Flatiron District. Eataly promises to be temple of Mediterranean gastronomy with a plethora of food shops as well as a Neapolitan pizzeria, a steakhouse and upcoming rooftop beer garden.

2. Buttermilk Channel
524 Court Street | Brooklyn, NY
(718) 852-8490
Its name refers to the strait between Brooklyn and Governors Island, though the name also functions as a double entendre, buttermilk being deployed as an ingredient not only in the batter for fried chicken but also in the house-made ricotta that’s layered into an appetizer tart.

3. Bare Burger
535 Laguardia Place | Manhattan, NY 10012
(212) 477-8125
33 – 21 31st Avenue | Astoria, NY 11106
(718) 777-7011
While respecting the lore and appeal of the classic American burger, the six friends who created Bareburger also aim to update that staple by offering countless options and using healthier ingredients. Voila — an organic burger that also lets the customers choose exactly how they want it prepared.

4. T Salon
459 West 15th Street | New York, NY
(212) 243-0432
You’ll find a tranquil mix of international teas, vegan pastries and a tea-infused salad bar at this tea emporium in the gourmet mecca that is Chelsea Market.

5. Lavo
39 East 58th Street | New York, NY
(212) 750-5588
Already a nightlife fixture in Las Vegas, the NYC Lavo features a restaurant upstairs (with ridiculously hearty food like one-pound meatballs and oreo zeppoles) and a banging nightclub downstairs!
